On April 4, 2025, the Vietnam Traders Arbitration Centre (VTA) officially announced the appointment of Arbitrator – Lawyer Nguyen Hoang Chuong as Director of Cooperation Development (in charge of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia) for the 2025–2027 term.

VTA Delegation Participates in Hainan Free Trade Port Legal Week

From October 17th to 20th, 2024, a delegation from the Vietnam Traders Arbitration Centre (VTA), led by Arbitrator Phuong Dang (Paige), Vice President of VTA, attended the Hainan Free Trade Port Legal Week in Haikou City, Hainan, China. This event convened legal professionals and organizations to explore opportunities in trade, commerce, legal services, international arbitration, and other related fields.

VTA Delegation

During the event, the VTA delegation actively participated in several sessions focused on international arbitration. These sessions included comprehensive discussions on the evolving landscape of ad hoc arbitration in Haikou, offering valuable insights and facilitating the exchange of knowledge among the participants. Furthermore, the VTA team engaged in substantive discussions with representatives from the eBRAM International Online Dispute Resolution Centre (Hong Kong), exploring the functionalities of their online dispute resolution platform and deliberating on the potential for future collaboration between the two organizations.

A significant highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between VTA and the Hainan Arbitration Association. This ceremony, witnessed by other delegations, marked a pivotal step in enhancing cooperation in arbitration between Vietnam and Hainan. The MOU aims to facilitate smoother business dispute resolutions and promote mutual understanding between the two regions.

In addition to the main activities, the VTA delegation had the honor of visiting the office of the Hainan International Arbitration Court (HIAC). This visit was not only a learning experience but also an opportunity to strengthen ties with the international arbitration community. During this visit, VTA signed a cooperation agreement with HIAC, further solidifying their collaborative efforts and commitment to improving arbitration practices.

Throughout their stay in Haikou, the VTA delegation visited and engaged in discussions with two prominent law firms, Jingshi and Eastgos. These meetings aimed to facilitate the exchange of information and explore potential avenues for cooperation. The discussions centered on enhancing legal services and arbitration practices in both countries, with a particular focus on Haikou and major cities in Vietnam.

The participation of VTA in the Hainan Free Trade Port Legal Week and the agreements signed during the event mark a significant step towards fostering stronger legal and economic ties between Vietnam and China in general, and between Hainan and Ho Chi Minh City in particular. These efforts are expected to contribute to the development of a more robust legal framework and promote greater economic collaboration between the two regions.

VTA’s Model Arbitration Clause: “Mọi tranh chấp phát sinh từ hoặc liên quan đến hợp đồng này sẽ được giải quyết bằng trọng tài tại Trung tâm Trọng tài Thương nhân Việt Nam (VTA) theo Quy tắc tố tụng trọng tài của Trung tâm này”. “Any dispute arising out of or in relation with this contract shall be resolved by arbitration at the Vietnam Traders Arbitration Centre (VTA) in accordance with its Rules of Arbitration”.

The Vietnam Trade Arbitration Center (VTA) is responsible for organizing and coordinating the resolution of business disputes through institutional arbitration, with jurisdiction over disputes including: (i) disputes arising from commercial activities between parties; (ii) disputes involving at least one party engaged in commercial activities; and (iii) disputes as prescribed by law to be resolved by arbitration.
